Navajo Weaving Workshop

Lynda Teller Pete

Monday-Thursday July 22-25

or

Saturday-Tuesday July 27-30

9:00-4:00

This is a beginning Navajo weaving class taught by an award-winning fifth generation Navajo weaver. You will learn Navajo weaving techniques while making a small rug, approximately 6.5” by 8.5” in size. There will be daily discussions on Navajo culture and a Navajo word of the day. At the end of the class, there will be a blessing ceremony to cut the tassels of the finished rug. Each student will receive a loom, tools, and the yarn needed to weave the rug. The looms will be warped, and you may take the looms home in the evening to continue weaving if you wish. These items can be purchased once the class is completed , if desired.

This year we will be offering two beginning workshops in hopes of accommodating all who want to take the class. One class meets Monday to Thursday, and the second class meets Saturday to Tuesday. At registration you will be asked which section you want as your first choice, and if you can take the other section as a second choice. Please be as flexible as possible! Thank you.

  • You will gain a deeper appreciation of the Navajo culture and make a small beautiful Navajo rug.

  • Paper and pencil to take notes. All materials are provided.

  • $550 for the four day workshop. All materials are included. A $250 deposit will be required upon registration. This deposit is refundable if the Weaving Center is notified that you cannot attend the workshop prior to June 15.
